The Siemens Healthcare division is a supplier of healthcare technology for the medical industry and was acquired in the year of 2000 by Siemens (it was previously named Shared Medical Systems Corporation). This division has its headquarters in Erlangen, Germany, providing jobs to almost employees worldwide, most of them located on Germany Headquarters.
For the company as a whole, the year of 2010 was a record year for profits, with a net income raising 63 percent to approximately $5.5 billion on sales of roughly $103 billion. In October of 2010, the company reorganized the whole division and categorized it in three large divisions: Imaging and Therapy Systems, Clinical Products and Diagnostics.
In recognition of its achievement in imaging technology, global consulting company Frost & Sullivan awarded Siemens Healthcare its Award for Technology Leadership in the computed tomography imaging market. Notably in 2010, Siemens developed the full field mammography system “Mammomat” and released it on the United States. According to the company, the device combined digital screening and diagnostic mammography, stereo tactic biopsy, and upgrade capability to future technologies all in one system. In order to create this innovative system, Siemens Healthcare conducted some workshops around the world, in which radiologists, radiology technologists and physicists contributed with details and suggestions on their vision for a next generation digital mammography system, making it one of the best systems available.
